Ginseng Contract Growing Information Day
Ginseng contract growers wanted. Earn $35,000/ha by developing Ginseng at your property.
Farmers and other land owners with suitable sites in the South Waikato are being offered an opportunity to gain a $35,000 per/ha return by developing a Ginseng plantation on their property.
Tauranga-based Ginseng Growers Ltd is running an information day next week to present information to interested farmers. The company is the largest grower of Ginseng in the southern hemisphere and is looking to expand on its extensive plantings in the south Waikato area.
Spokesman Toby Potter said the company was interested in the south Waikato because it has suitable soil and a cool winter climate which Ginseng requires. “ We are especially interested in fertile free-draining sites,” he said. Mr Potter said land-owners did not have to possess crop-growing experience as the company provided all expertise from planting and crop management, to harvesting. “ Hands-off” contract arrangements were similar to those in the Kiwifruit and Avocado industries, he said.
Detailed information on site requirements, crop marketing, and financial models will be presented at an information day at the Okoroire Hall on Wednesday 30 May (12.30 – 2.30 pm).

Ginseng has been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years, and more recently in Western health supplements, cosmetics, and even beer.
