Growing Ginseng
The
growing characteristics of a ginseng plant are unique compared to other
production horticulture crops. After more than a decade of ginseng growing
in New Zealand, and extensive research into international best-practice
growing methods, Ginseng Growers Ltd has accumulated the knowledge and
know-how to produce significant yields of high quality roots.
Ginseng Growers Plantations
Ginseng Growers Ltd has American ginseng planted at four individual sites
on both sides of the Kaimai Ranges in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. All
of the sites share a similar altitude and soil type.
Development
started in 2003 with consecutive plantings each year. In total, approximately
12 tonne of seed has been stratified and planted within four developments.
Research and Development
Ginseng Growers Ltd is actively involved in a number of R&D initiatives. In addition to continually searching out improved growing methods for the existing business, a key development focus is the exploration of new techniques for growing ginseng as a complementary crop to operations such as kiwifruit (during the initial development stage), avocados, citrus, and other crops are certainly a possibility.
GGL has adopted a biological approach to crop management. So far this has produced outstanding results in terms of crop performance and pest and disease resistance. GGL's research and development team is constantly aiming to refine these delicate growing methodologies with the aim of creating an even more favourable growing environment.
